Hypnosis & Imagery for Post-Surgical Pain

12 Mar

Question:

Is the Ease Pain CD appropriate for post-surgery knee replacement pain? If so, when to listen? before surgery? after? (I already plan to use the "surgery" CD before.. found it enormously helpful three years ago as I prepared for bariatric surgery. I'm convinced that my unremarkable surgery and recuperation was due in no small measure to listening to that CD.  Am hoping for a similar result this time.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Mark

Answer:

Dear Mark,

I'm glad you found the Surgery CD helpful three years ago and I wish you the very best with this new challenge.

I'd stick to listening to the surgery imagery before the surgery and shortly after (the affirmations are geared for post-surgical healing), but then I'd consider adding to your repertory either the Ease Pain imagery or, if you're up for 6 sessions of really stellar, comprehensive hypnosis audios, I'd check out Carol Ginandes' Rapid Recovery from Injury, which really zeroes in on pain and healing. That might be just the ticket for your convalescence.

And by the way, I know it's not exactly a day at the beach to recuperate from knee replacement surgery, but I can't tell you how many people have told me (later) how it was the best thing they'd ever done!

So best of luck to you.

All best,
Belleruth
