We have had a difficult time with our 20 year old son from the beginning, and have sought help from various professional therapists since he was four.
I've never really felt we were getting anywhere with any of them. Our son knew how to act like a good therapy patient and say all the right things, but he never changed. He now blames my husband and me for his misfires and failures.
We had him tested here in Baltimore, and they confirmed much of what we already knew. He is very intelligent but there are big discrepancies in areas of functioning. We tried to get him into an intensive outpatient program for emotional help but were told he was not a good candidate because he would not cooperate.

We got this question from someone who ordered our Healthful Sleep imagery as a way of getting herself off medication for her chronic and longstanding insomnia. She basically wanted to know how soon before she could toss her sleeping pills out.
Wanted to ask _ how long do you think I would need to listen to this Healthful Sleep CD to get any positive results. ie, not needing sleeping aids.
I will continue to take a sleeping aid initially. How long before you think I can stop, if ever?

We got this query from a certified hypnotherapist working in an addiction house for men. She's been creating her own guided imagery to help with stress reduction and self-esteem. Not surprisingly, the men have histories of abuse and trauma along with chemical dependency. Here is her question:
Greetings, BR. I am a certified Hypnotherapist working in an addiction house for men.
I use guided imagery for stress reduction and self love. The gentlemen have been abused, addicted to drugs and or alcohol and other unfortunate things.
I make up my own imageries but could use some helpful ideas. Is there a book you'd suggest for ideas on the subject? The feedback has been gratifying, my intentions are for their hearts to heal and bodies to follow.
My resources are limited and I could use some references. Perhaps you've written something I could use or you have an idea of something helpful. Your reply is appreciated greatly.
I'm looking for a CD to help me deal with chronic insomnia & anxiety. I was referred to you by my therapist, whose CD's I like very much, but she moves too fast to allow me to get into the groove and benefit fully from the meditations and exercises.
I have tried Jack Cornfield (sic) and Jon Cabat-Zinn (sic). They have been helpful, but too much talking gets in the way of my own process.
I need some SLOW progressive relaxations and SLOW meditations that allow the listener to develop her own imagery and process, rather than to be directed into an overly scripted experience.
Can you, or anyone else, send me some new suggestions?
Two questions: Do you use binaural beats in your background music?
And, aside from your sleeping aid recordings, can a person multi-task while listening to, say, the weight loss recordings and still gain benefit? Or, does the listening require total immersion while playing the recordings?

We got this excellent question from a trauma survivor, who understood the critical importance of the voice tone, timbre, pacing and music quality on a guided imagery CD. She understood her vulnerability to the wrong voice, and she wanted to find a way to hear a sample first.
Here is her question:
I have just finished your book on healing post-trauma stress, "Invisible Heroes", and I am interested in obtaining some of your cds.
But first, I need to know what your voice sounds like. This is critical to me, because I am very sensitive to sound. I need an extremely soothing voice with soft music in the background.
Is there a place where I could just hear your voice before purchasing?
PS - Your book has helped me so much, but I believe the audio cds would help me more.
