Question:

Hi, Belleruth,
I had the pleasure of hearing you lecture at the University of Arizona Integrative Fellowship Program. I practice developmental and behavioral pediatrics, and frequently recommend your CDs to my patients with great results.

I am wondering if you know of any guided imagery CDs that specifically addresses tics/Tourette Syndrome? I know guided imagery can be helpful and I found a self-hypnosis script for tics in the "Harry the Hypnopotamus" series, but it would be great if I could find something on a CD, as the "Harry" books run about $90!

I see so many kids that are bothered by their tics and it seems to me this would be a great topic for guided imagery/self-hypnosis. Thanks in advance!

I just had surgery a few weeks ago and now I have a cold and was looking at getting your "Healthy Immune System" imagery. My question is this - I have MS that is well controlled at this time. Taking into consideration I just had surgery (any trauma, even controlled trauma, can kick up an exacerbation) and that MS is an autoimmune disease, is it okay to listen to this? Or could the imagery over-stimulate the immune system to a point of causing my MS symptoms to flair?

Thank you,

Jane

Dear Belleruth,

I was in a bad car accident in October. I am doing much better and could possibly be released to drive and return to work in a couple of weeks.

I am having a bit of trouble sleeping, and know that after being unable to drive for 6 weeks, I will be feeling panicky about driving.

Which of your titles would be helpful for this panicky feeling? I do own some of your titles and know they have helped in the past.

Dear Health Journeys,

I want to thank you for all the fantastic material you offer. I am an LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist), working at a large rehab facility.

Recently, I launched a program called "Meditative Massage", in which clients receive a gentle, slow flowing aromatherapy massage while listening to the guided imagery topic of their choice.

While this is not for everyone, most of my clients are loving it. It's unique, and no other facility or spa has a program like this.

Dear Belleruth,

We have had a difficult time with our 20 year old son from the beginning, and have sought help from various professional therapists since he was four.

I've never really felt we were getting anywhere with any of them. Our son knew how to act like a good therapy patient and say all the right things, but he never changed. He now blames my husband and me for his misfires and failures.

We had him tested here in Baltimore, and they confirmed much of what we already knew. He is very intelligent but there are big discrepancies in areas of functioning. We tried to get him into an intensive outpatient program for emotional help but were told he was not a good candidate because he would not cooperate.

A woman with a long history of anxiety, panic attacks, posttraumatic stress, depression and insomnia wonders where to begin with listening to guided imagery as the holidays approach and her emotional resilience takes a hit.

She asks:

Hi, Belleruth, For many years I have suffered from panic disorder and PTSD, as well as sleepless nights, anxiety and depression. All these conditions get worse with the approaching holiday season.

What CD's would be best for all? I would be most comfortable taking a natural approach to wellness and appreciate any advice. Thank you,

Melinda K.

We got this question from someone who ordered our Healthful Sleep imagery as a way of getting herself off medication for her chronic and longstanding insomnia. She basically wanted to know how soon before she could toss her sleeping pills out.

Hi, Belleruth,

Wanted to ask _ how long do you think I would need to listen to this Healthful Sleep CD to get any positive results. ie, not needing sleeping aids.
I will continue to take a sleeping aid initially. How long before you think I can stop, if ever?

Thanks,

Marie

Belleruth got this question from an oncologist after a guided imagery presentation to the Integrative Medicine Fellows at the University of Arizona in Tucson. It was about general psychological advice for cancer patients undergoing treatment.

Hi, Belleruth,

I just attended your talk - I was very moved and impressed. I am a medical oncologist. Do you have advice for my patients actively undergoing chemotherapy ?

Thank you very much for your insight and input.

This question raises some important issues about the importance of insight in changing patterns, symptoms and behavior.

Question:

Hi BellRuth (sic), I believe my insomnia comes from deep rooted fears, so I believe I would have to have a cd that addresses fears/ or lack of. Which CD do you suggest?1 I do not fear leaving the house.

We got this query from a certified hypnotherapist working in an addiction house for men. She's been creating her own guided imagery to help with stress reduction and self-esteem. Not surprisingly, the men have histories of abuse and trauma along with chemical dependency. Here is her question:

Question:

Greetings, BR. I am a certified Hypnotherapist working in an addiction house for men.

I use guided imagery for stress reduction and self love. The gentlemen have been abused, addicted to drugs and or alcohol and other unfortunate things.

I make up my own imageries but could use some helpful ideas. Is there a book you'd suggest for ideas on the subject? The feedback has been gratifying, my intentions are for their hearts to heal and bodies to follow.

My resources are limited and I could use some references. Perhaps you've written something I could use or you have an idea of something helpful. Your reply is appreciated greatly.
