Man with Year-Long, Debilitating Depression Asks for Resources, Advice

14 Apr

"I am a father, son and husband struggling with anxiety and depression for a long time, but to an almost debilitating extent for the past year ..."

Question:

Good Morning, I have been struggling with anxiety and depression for the last year. Actually, I have been struggling for a long time, but to an almost debilitating extent for the last year. I am a salesman by trade and also a father, son and husband.

Do you have any meditations or other tapes you could recommend to help me get my vibrations and mind in a better place?

Thanks and God Bless,

Martin

Dear Martin,

Yes, we have some resources that can help, and I’ll be happy to describe them, but I’d also like to offer some other suggestions for you. Chances are, if you’re suffering from a year-long, debilitating depression, you’re going to need more than guided imagery to blast you loose from it, at least in the beginning. The good news is all kinds of effective help for this.

Our guided imagery for Depression is very specific for targeting the heavy, energy-less, fogbound, self-hating symptoms that are the signature of depression and it will work well in collaboration with other interventions for a deep, long-term depression, as well as alone for the milder varieties. I also think that Amy Weintraub’s work is very helpful for this: Breathe to Beat the Blues offers 12 different breath work exercises designed to dissolve depression, and her Life Force Yoga to Beat the Blues does the same thing with yoga poses and stretches.

I also strongly recommend that you take a look at the suggestions on our depression page, for some critically important information about what else you can do for this. There is absolutely no reason for you to remain this depressed, given the amazing array of medications and non-medical treatments that are now available, even if used only as temporary, jump-start measures, until your own natural supply of energy comes back.

Good luck and please let me know how it goes.
