Yoga for Dramatic Weight Loss and Energy Gain

10 Nov

Dear Belleruth, Health Journeys and friends,

I am a post-menopausal, 57-year-old woman from Iowa who long ago gave up the battle to achieve slimness.  My husband and I have always liked my healthy, robust, well-larded, corn-fed look, but I recently started having problems with my knees and back.

My physician suggested I take off twenty pounds, which seemed a hopeless goal.  On the other hand, I’ve noticed over the years that people who teach yoga seem slim and wiry, even when they’re middle-aged.  Long story short, I started taking yoga - at first once a week, then quickly going to twice a week, and then three times.  Now I practice with videos every day I’m not in class. I’ve grown to really like it.

To my surprise, I’ve lost eight pounds in less than seven weeks, and the weight I still have is redistributing in pleasant ways.  I have energy, my posture is better and my knees and back are feeling better too. (There are some postures my instructor tells me to avoid because of the possibility of injury).

Since it was your company that introduced me to yoga in the first place, I’m writing in to say thanks and to recommend yoga for flexibility, strength, energy and achieving a healthier weight.
