Gratitude, Holiday Wishes, and Our New Sleep App

19 Dec

Everyone here at Health Journeys want to wish you a resoundingly happy, peaceful, safe, gratifying, and altogether wonderful holiday week, filled with love, laughter and all good things… not to mention a return to that blockbuster, high-test, healing emotion that feeds mind, body and spirit better than just about anything else:  gratitude.

(I recently heard Andy Weil being interviewed on NPR about his new book, Spontaneous Happiness, and he referred to a study where people who kept a gratitude notebook for a week, writing down simple things they were grateful for, were found to have significantly improved their mood for the next 6 months. Why not try it?  Seems like a no-brainer to me.  In fact, pondering this, sitting on a plane at 33,000 feet, I realized that even by 8 a.m., I could feel grateful for (1) having a totally reliable car that got me to the airport on time and without worry; (2) getting a call from one of my kids to make sure I had proper directions to his neighborhood from the airport; (3) being able to sit in a chair and fly through the air like a bird; (4) getting bumped up to first class at the last minute; (5) having a job where I can write about things I care about, just as I’m doing right now and (6) having a great team in Akron that takes good care of people.  Not a bad list to start the day off with, and it sure beats focusing on annoyances… that’s a choice we make every day.)

Oh, and speaking of gratitude, we’re all pretty grateful to our Supreme Techie Guy, Jon Lorenzo and his company, INCOM Integrated Computer Systems, for whipping up our first official HJ App for iTunes – our Sleep Help, imagery - the first of many more to come.

Okay, that’s it for now.  Have a wonderful holiday!
