Dr. Ruth Buczynski of NICABM has just put together a really smart, informative, free report on the current state of mind-body medicine - what the most promising discoveries, findings, tools and practice areas are turning out to be, and where to look for more info or training.

Among other things, she describes the current understanding of the ubiquitous role of inflammation in a whole range of diseases (it’s not pretty); the surprising neuroplasticity of the brain (who knew?); the effects of sugar on brain chemistry and addiction (worse than you thought); and the centrality of the freeze response in traumatic stress - juicy stuff like that.

It’s the kind of overview and perspective that’s hard to come by, but Ruth has had the perfect perch from which to survey the field for the past 20 years - she convenes the awesome, cutting edge, annual mind-body conference at Hilton Head, otherwise known as The International Psychology of Health, Immunity and Disease Conference.

So check out this report if you have a few minutes - if you’re a practitioner, it will help you re-calibrate your practice and set your sites on what you may want to learn next; if you’re a health consumer, it may give you some good direction on what tools and methods can best serve you.

And for all you guided imagery aficionados, another report that’s terrific, free and available is Imagery International’s ImagiNews’ issue for June. A pdf download can be found on their site, along with some other great info about where to find a guided imagery practitioner, an events calendar, and more.

OK, take care & be well.
