Really, Is One More Book on Meditation Necessary? Yep, This One is…

21 Jan

Hello again.

Cindy mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we really ought to put together a good, useful flu-fighting kit for our peeps – this pesky flu has been raging around us, felling staff, family, friends, colleagues – yikes!   It’s really bad this year.

So we did.  Check it out here.

Guided imagery is good for this – we’ve learned that immune system (cellular) imagery will indeed up-regulate bug fighting in the bloodstream – it lasts for at least 45 minutes and maybe a lot longer.  Do it a couple times a day and how bad would that be?

Add to that some good, inspiring, metaphoric, cleansing & clearing imagery for General Wellness as an alternate goose to the immune system, and we’ve got a mind-body plan.

Throw in a jar of Sombra, my all-time favorite goop (no exaggeration, people – I get it by the box load and send it to friends), for the sore, achy muscles that most of us get with flu, so it can do its non-greasy, healing magic, as it (oh, so gently and sweetly!) soaks into the skin – divine!

For good measure, we’ve got these awesome aromatherapy beads, clumsily called Aroma Remedy Head Aid, (I swear I had nothing to do with naming that sucker!), to clear up a stuffy, achy, pulsing head with swollen sinuses -  arguably the yuckiest, cruddiest and most debilitating symptom of flu.

Normally this dazzling little collection of goodies would cost $55, but Cindy and her plucky gang have reduced it to $39.95 - through the end of this month (January 2013).  So check it out, before the offer disappears on Feb 1st.

And on another note entirely, I have to let you know about a really stellar new book, scheduled to release this week: Tara Brach’s True Refuge: Finding Peace and Freedom in Your Own Awakened Heart.

I confess that when I picked up the galleys (sent by yet another earnest and inevitable publicist), I wondered what could possibly be left to say about mindfulness and presence that I hadn't already heard/seen/read before.

Well, never mind….

There’s really something very special about this exquisitely written book - its clarity, beauty, simplicity and humanity practically sing to you.  It’s inspiring and uplifting to read, but it also is laced with practical, implementable, step-by-step guidance to practice and live by.

And the fifteen brief, powerful guided meditations offer an easy, gentle entry into your own inner peace and wisdom.

While turning Tara’s pages, I thought of a half dozen friends who could really use the book as a friendly, loving reference point to return to again and again - myself included.

So check this one out if you’ve got the time!

Okay, take care and be well!
