The amazing pools and eucalyptus-scented steam rooms at RC are fed by a hot, lithium-laced, underground volcanic river whose waters seem to mellow out the most stressed-out guest. There are hikes, horseback rides, detoxifying massages, revitalizing facials, yoga, meditation, water aerobics and yummy (really, truly yummy) vegetarian Mexican cooking from the organic gardens on the grounds. They subscribe to serial food combining (fruits first, then whole grains and complex carbs, proteins last – but you can pretty much do what you want – no food Nazi’s here). All I know is, after a week, I come home stronger, buffer, thinner and with insanely low cholesterol levels. It cost me less than $1500 for the whole 7.5 days.
So, if you’re needing a rejuvenating, relaxed vacation, do check this place out! It’s safe, it’s easy to get to and it will do wonderful things for your mind, body and spirit. (And I get zero kickbacks for saying this, people!)
And if you’re after a structured, first-class, personal growth program, I can’t talk about Mexico without mentioning the very creative, brilliantly led Portals to the Self: A Woman’s Circle by the Sea, an intensive week of small group storytelling, yoga, movement, water play, guided imagery, and journaling, aimed at plumbing the delicious depths of each person’s amazing psyche, facilitated by two of my all-time, favorite social workers, Ceci McDonnell and Karen Rosenberg.
This year they’re hosting a retreat at Laguna Bacalar from February 20-27; and at Isla Mujeres from March 20-27. If you want first class guidance to access your own creativity and growth, this is the way to do it. And when they can, these generous dames offer scholarship registrations.
OK, take care and be well!
